Thyroid RFA stands for Thyroid Radio frequency Ablation. It is a minimally invasive procedure used for the treatment of benign thyroid nodules. Radio frequency ablation involves using heat generated by high-frequency electrical currents to destroy the targeted tissue. In the context of thyroid nodules, RFA is typically performed under ultrasound guidance. A thin needle electrode is inserted directly into the nodule, and radiofrequency energy is delivered through the electrode, heating the nodule and causing cellular destruction. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, and the patient remains awake during the process.
