LAN id/password security

I use a Visual Studio Console and I have just gotten the fake HVAC Getting started on a project to work on. Yeah.
As the connections were made I saw on Visual Studio my LAN id and password were unencrypted. This bothers me. Does that mean the connection is unencrypted over the air? This worries me a bit if this were to be true.

Your connection to your WiFi network with a password requirement is encrypted. Connection to AWS is also encrypted as AWS IoT does not support unauthenticated connections.
